Stunning Lift at North West Slope of Holyhead Mountain

Today, once again I ventured to the North West Slope of Holyhead Mountain. The lift is smooth cliff like sea sourced air, and any plane in any strength of air, almost would rise and rise. You can see above the fabulous landing area with some nice sink and heather to land on. Granted there are one or two small rocks but no where near as many as there are at Bosley Cloud, and the lift is better.

The Votij to the left flew like a dream, but there was not enough wind, surprisingly, for the Provost. It started at 15mph then dropped to about 10mph by mid afternoon, which wasn’t really enough so I headed off home.

The only down side is that you get the usual list of questions from interested walkers who keep asking if there is a  motor on it. No matter how many times I try to explain, they don’t really believe you. Then they ask how it stays up, and you explain about slope lift. Then they ask if it is too windy and you explain that without lift you can’t fly. You can just tell from the expression on their face that they think you are talking rubbish and don’t really know what you are talking about. My future brother -in-law, who also flies suggested that I should have a tee shirt with all the usual questions and answers printed in capitals. I could then just say – “Look, don’t talk to me when I am flying, just read the T Shirt and shut up!”
